This page is a page to tell you the commonly used lingo in the herpetological community.

Crepuscular- Awake during dawn and dusk.


Diurnal- Awake during the day.


Herping- It's when a person or a group of people goes outside into a reptile's and/or amphibian's natural habitat and tries to find and catch reptiles and/or amphibians, then either keeps the reptiles and/or amphibians that they caught, or releases them.


Hide- a small shelter for your animal to go into to hide from sight for safety.


MBD- Metabolic Bone Disease, is disease common in reptiles that is deadly and caused by lack of calcium in their diet, and lack of vitamin D.


Morph- a specific genetic trait in a species that presents itself as a physical trait like size or coloration or color patterns.


Nocturnal- Awake during the night.


Pinky mice- small mice that are frozen or alive at an early age used to feed reptiles or amphibians.


To dust bugs- before you feed bugs to your animal it means to dust the bugs with calcium and occasionally vitamins too.


To tame a reptile- To make it calm and/or not aggressive around people so that you can handle them.


UVB- Ultraviolet Bulb, a light bulb that gives off ultraviolet waves giving animals vitamin D.


Vitamin D- a vitamin that is used to help the body absorb calcium, phosphate, and magnesium.  This can be given to your reptile or amphibian through vitamin D vitamins that are dusted on their food, using a UVB in their enclosure, or taking them outside for a little bit during the day to get natural vitamin D from the sun.
