Horned Lizard

-
Size: 5 to 8 inches
-
Lifespan: 5 years
-
Tank: A minimum tank size of 18”length by 18” width by 12” height
-
Substrate: They work fine with sand, just not too much because they’ll burrow so much that you won’t ever see them, or you can use paper towels
-
Decorations: They aren’t arboreal, but do climb on things that are low to the ground so you can give them branches that are laying on the ground and rocks to climb on, a hide, and a water dish.
-
Heat: 100-105°F on hot side and 72-75°F on cold side
-
Diurnal and need UV bulb
-
Humidity: Its natural habitat is the desert so it does not need high humidity
-
Diet: Harvester ants in the wild, but in captivity small crickets work, dust their food with calcium with D3 in it and formic acid with calcium, rotate between the two. (you don’t need to use the formic acid if you feed them harvester ants)
-
Feeding: Feed them once a day in the same spot of the enclosure so they know where to wait for their food.
-
Fun fact: It sprays blood out of its eyes when threatened! However, it does not do this much in captivity.
